What is biblical counselling?
David Powlison, Executive Director of the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF), was in the UK recently and spoke to Steve Midgley, chair of BCUK.
“I would describe Christian counselling as the conversational aspect of Christian ministry. We’re all used to the public aspect of preaching, teaching, sacrament, worship. We’re all used to the private aspect of personal reflection, Bible study, quiet time, prayer. And then we all do the conversational, relational aspect, but historically the church has not thought about that in an intentional, biblical, focused way.”
David says the aim of his work is to “bring counselling back as one of the core ministries of the church of Jesus Christ.”
