A Christmas Prayer

For those whose guilt overwhelms them, this Christmas, Lord – please bring them grace and peace.

50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.

For those who are trapped by hopelessness, Father – this season, help them remember your power.

51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.

For those living in fear – in your sovereign might bring justice and freedom, we pray.

52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.

For those in need – in body or mind – may your generous Spirit be providing for them day-by-day.

53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.

For those doubting your love or your presence – give them the gift of certainty in your character and your promises.

54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

For all of us, this Christmas, help us to be thankful for the precious gift of Emmanuel: God with us.
